A History of Violence

Quite the good film, and I found it unsettling, mostly because there's no exposition of a prior Road to Damascus moment for Joey as he had become Tom.

Joey is for all intents and purposes a reprehensible character, no matter how virtous Tom may have come across. His actions previous to those portrayed in the story have no clean explanation, it might very well be that he took it on the lam and changed identity due to his brother's desire to kill him for what he did to Carl.

And at the end, no clear redemption is shown, his daughter accepts him, as does his son eventually, but the son's motives are unknown as he's gone through some heavy shit and the daughter is simply too young to know any better. The wife is a complete mystery.

All of which add up to a very engaging movie.
